My daughter heard that Hong Kong Bakery near downtown Barrington was good, so we tried it. We tried the multi layer cake and they were all so moist and made with good ingredients. The strawberry was my favorite and I highly recommend it because it had a good strawberry flavor without being overly sweet. My daughter tried the custard bun, and she loved it. I will be getting my future holiday cakes from this bakery.

Small business Asian style bakery. Very friendly service. We've picked up bakery items twice. Both times the items were fresh and delicious. Love the chiffon cake. Tried the rainbow mille cake sample. Delicious and beautiful. Will come again. Update- Picked up a whole rainbow mille cake. Cake was packaged in a nice box and an insulated bag with cute serving dishes, cake cutter and forks. So attentive to detail. Everything is made fresh. The cake was delicious. My whole family loved it.

This is my first time ordering from Hong Kong Bakery in Barrington. I ordered a blueberry cream cake for my husband’s birthday. Kelly (the owner) was very kind and asked me what kind of design I like for the top of the cake. I love that she gave me a liberty to customize a bit for the cake. The cake was ready on time; when she says 4pm on the day, it will be exactly 4pm. I was very pleased when I picked up the cake. It was very beautiful! When we cut the cake, we were surprised to see a lot of fresh blueberries being put in the cream between the sponge cake! Wow and wow!! I also appreciate she didn’t put any kind of fake blueberry essence. I see some people complained her cake being too mild or not fragrant enough. These people just don’t understand; real fruit should not have overwhelming odor! Her cake tasted absolutely delicious and REAL! Better than other commercialized Korean bakeries in Chicagoland. I will order again from her, it worth every penny since she didn’t skimp at all on the blueberries. Love it!

Their customer service is excellent with a parking lot next to the Metra. ***Ask for the frequency card for them to write down what you bought for gifts later. (Same as a punch card from subway) Only drawback was just two tables for customers to enjoy the tasty cakes and buns. Mainly a carry out bakery for drinks, cakes, and buns. The smoothies are made from actual fruit blended together which tastes fresh with real fruit flavor! The cakes are freshly made moist, not sweet at all! ***Make sure to pre order and call ahead a couple days to order their specialty cakes that come in 6”, 8”, and 10”. The buns are so good they run out quickly in the afternoon. I would preorder the buns too. Their BBQ Pork, custard, bean paste, and cheese hot dog buns are fantastic! All of their crepe cakes are so good! I tell all of my family and friends that live near Barrington to pick up a tasty cake, bun, and drink! This is my go to bakery that I don’t have to go in the city to Chinatown.

So excited to find a Hong Kong style bakery outside of chinatown! The pastries are so cute and were delicious. I especially loved the two cream cakes I tried (blueberry and strawberry). Our drinks took a little longer but I liked that they weren’t too sweet.

The atmosphere is not the best but I was impressed by the desserts they made. Full of flavor and great texture. It feels easy and delicious. I still want to try few more different desserts they have. I will give it a try in a weekend. The owner was super helpful and nice. Gave me in the end one dessert for free, was nice of her to do that.

Moving away from Chicago to a boonies neighborhood, I'm always looking for authentic Asian bakeries. I ordered multiple flavored cakes, almond cookies, egg tarts, bbq pork bun, sweet red bean bun and smoothies. Haven't eaten the cakes yet, the almond cookies and egg tarts were delicious. The red bean bun was very good, the bread is great. The smoothies was also good. Mango smoothie is made of real mango fruit unlike some other boba places. Owner was very nice and polite. Got there almost around 5pm and selections was there but limited in amount which says a great deal that this bakery is good, almost sold out hours before closing. So order ahead of time. I'm so happy I found this place. Will definitely be back.

This is a small, family-run bakery, so don’t be surprised that the store itself is small and doesn’t have many display items. The owner is very kind, though her English is limited, but that has never been a problem. Her cakes are consistently delicious, and I’ve ordered birthday cakes from her numerous times without ever being disappointed. She’s incredibly understanding and always tries her best to make exactly what I have in mind. All I have to do is show her a picture, and she’ll work to replicate it beautifully. Just be sure to give her 1–2 days’ notice, and you’ll have a yummy, high-quality cake that’s made with care. A small business like this deserves our support; you can truly taste the love in every bite.

We are so glad that we stopped by this hidden gem small family own business. Although the store display look kind of empty, what they have are very good. We had the BBQ pork bun (very good), 3 kind of Mille crepe cake (strawberry, rainbow and coffee, all are delicious), mini cookies (also delicious). We also had brown sugar bubble tea and taro sago coconut milk drink (soo good). If you order $30 or more, you get a free Mille crepe cake. Plus, the lady owner is very friendly. We are so happy to find this Asian bakery/dessert place in the Barrington area. We will come back for sure. We recently ordered a birthday cake from Hong Kong Bakery & Cafe. Not only they were very beautiful, they were also delicious. They even delivered one of the cakes for free. We also ordered mini cakes of strawberry, mango, blueberry, taro paste and Earl Grey tea flavor. They are so pretty and yummy. I highly recommend this place. Edit: they now only accept pre-order.

UPDATE: Nov 24, 2025 - this bakery has transitioned to pre-order only. 4th Update (Sept 3, 2025) I’ve ordered four different crepe mille cakes now and each cake as pretty and delicious as ever. —————————— Update: A few months later, I ordered an 8” Mille crepe cake with passionfruit filling and asked for a custom design of poppy flowers because the birthday girl loves poppies. The cake was so fresh and tasted divine! The party guests were super super impressed and asked me where I bought the cake, what kind cake is it, what flavor? ——————————— Absolutely delicious Mille crepe cake!! I decided to order a birthday cake and some mini cakes without tasting anything first. My friends were blown away by how good the passion fruit flavor was!! The owner was also super easy to work with. She texted me pictures of different designs she can do. She’s so creative!!!
